Attending the recent Genesis program, Lenten Conversations: Observing Lent Through the Lens of Nature, moved me to see the changing seasons through creation’s eyes. From this experience comes the following poem.
The Season’s Most Honorable Guests
The historic Willow trees are soft and yellow
with buds in dazzling strands
The birds of red, blue, gold and brown are singing
a warm and glorious morning tune
The bright white head of the Bald Eagle
zealously peeks higher out of the nest with each day;
soon it will be time to hatch the new brood
These confusing swings in temperature
send sap flowing abundantly through the taps –
a sweet scurry
The naked saddle of Sugarloaf
is not humiliating to her
as she awaits the arrival of
a new Spring outfit of glowing green
The third trimesters are upon us,
the little ones take their positions for arrival;
the loving remain patient, yet delighted
to welcome the season’s most honorable guests
