Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Operations and Hospitality Manager (OHM) leads and supports the Dietary, Housekeeping, Maintenance and Plant Operations Departments with a close interface to the Center’s Registrar. The OHM ensures guests, speakers and employees have a seamless and exceptional experience reflecting the mission and goals of the Genesis Spiritual Life Center. 

The OHM provides effective leadership in operations and hospitality guided by the Genesis and Sisters of Providence core values of hospitality and compassion. This position requires the ability to work within an evolving environment and to manage multiple areas of daily operations.

Genesis Spiritual Life and Conference Center (Genesis) is a subsidiary entity of SPMC and enjoys the support of this parent organization.  SPMC provides support in areas of human resources, risk management, employee benefits and legal activities supporting the efforts of the OHM through and with the ED. 

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Leads and coordinates the daily operations of the Genesis Center providing an exceptional guest experience.  
  • Possesses management knowledge to guide the dietary, housekeeping, maintenance and general plan operations, including the Centers buildings and 19-acre property and arboretum.
  • Has strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and use of QuickBooks.
  • Has excellent customer service skills, can effectively and promptly resolve guest issues. 
  • Able to handle multiple and competing priorities effectively.
  • Knowledge of local and state health and safety regulations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Has general knowledge of human resources practices within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts regarding regulatory and legal compliance.   
  • With the Executive Director, recruits, hires, and determines compensation for non-salaried positions.
  • Provides training, guidance, and development as needed, including new employee orientation.
  • Able to have a flexible work schedule including evening and weekend coverage as needed and in rotation with others.
  • Is respectful of and committed to keeping alive the history of Genesis and the Sisters of Providence. 
  • Is responsible and available on off hours to address program and plant requirements.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES  

  • Must be able to embrace the unique culture of a retreat setting that emphasizes welcoming hospitality and the charism of the Sisters of Providence.
  • Have previous experience with managing staff, negotiating agreements, financial management, managing vendor relationships, room and food service operations.
  • Possesses excellent management and communication skills, knowledge of finances, budgeting, and the dynamics of fund raising/marketing. 
  • Have the ability to identify and implement best practices. 
  • Must possess leadership skills, confidence, self-motivation, cost-consciousness and strong problem-solving skills.
