Turning 50: Celebrating Your Jubilee Year
July 23, Sunday
“You shall make the fiftieth year holy, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants… For it is a jubilee; it shall be holy to you.” Lev. 25: 9, 12
Turning 50 can be a time of great anticipation and fulfillment, or it can feel stressful and depressing. In Hebrew scripture, Jubilee years are a time of joy, an extension of Sabbath practices rest and liberation. According to Leviticus, slaves and prisoners would be freed, debts would be forgiven, and the mercies of God would be particularly manifest. Catholics, both vowed religious and spiritual pilgrims, have celebrated Jubilee years since the 1300s. In this workshop participants will review the origins and practices of Jubilee, discover their application in our own lives, make a ritual labyrinth pilgrimage and conclude with a celebratory feast. Participants of any age or spirituality are welcome.
